On the 22nd November I left Southampton for the first time since arriving, stepping on a train to the capital city. Since my sister Kate is now living there I thought a visit was well overdue! Being a non-londoner it was imperative that we did as many touristy things as possible across the weekend, which led to us fitting in a lot! The weather was sunny with just the right amount of cold so we wrapped up and took to the streets for some sightseeing and shopping…
After a whistle-stop tour of the main sites we reached Covent Garden. Refuelling was in order so after a stop at Shake Shack we looked around the christmassy streets, even getting to feed the cutest reindeer!
After a lot of window shopping on Oxford Street it was time to go to the ice bar. After being told all about it we were really excited, and it did not disappoint! You’re supplied with a furry coat and gloves and are then sent in. The room is so cool (no pun intended haha) as literally everything is made of ice – even the glasses! I had the ‘baroque sensation’ cocktail; free with the ticket, and although I can’t remember what was in it I would definitely recommend!
After the ice bar we hopped on the tube to Winter Wonderland, and then later hit Clapham for a night out with Kate’s uni friends!
The next day we headed to Notting Hill, seeking out the bookshop that the film was based on and the hummingbird bakery – all the typical spots for us two! If you’re a chocoholic like me, I would definitely suggest the bakery’s black bottom cupcake.
It was so nice to see Kate again for the first time since uni and so good to be in London. The weekend has definitely put me in the christmas spirit and i’m really excited for all the celebrations to come!
